New Zealand

Get to know New Zealand.

New Zealand is an incredible destination for those who want to study English and have new experiences! The United Nations’ annual study, the World Happiness Report, ranked New Zealand as the eighth happiest nation in the world. So, if you’re looking for a peaceful place with an excellent quality of life and cultural experiences, this is the right place!

We must say that the country truly is synonymous with tranquility. An interesting fact about New Zealand is that the population of sheep there is larger than that of humans. In 2021, the human population was around 5 million, while the sheep population was about 25 million.

But beyond being sparsely populated, the country’s tranquility is also attributed to its environmental preservation. New Zealand has numerous national parks with breathtaking mountains and lake landscapes, perfect for enjoying and experiencing the serenity of the place. And for those who not only want to appreciate but also seek adrenaline adventures, the country offers a variety of extreme sports like bungee jumping, skydiving, snowboarding and abseiling.

This culture of excessive concern for the environment in the country was inherited from the native people of the region, the Maori. These people believe in the relationship between humans and nature and the need for balance between the worlds. Therefore, they are guided by the word “Kaitiakitanga,” which means care, protection, and preservation.

The country’s concern doesn’t stop at environmental preservation, but also extends to these richly traditional people. Maori is one of the official languages of the country, but despite that, only about 30% of the population knows some of the language, according to the 2021 census by Stats NZ Tatauranga Aotearoa. However, New Zealand’s goal is to increase the number of fluent speakers, so several schools in the country already include the language in their classes, and there’s even a television channel in this language.

The beautiful landscapes have also been stunning movie sets. The movie “The Lord of the Rings” and the other series, “The Hobbit,” were all done in the country. So when you’re in New Zealand, you can visit each of these locations and feel like a character from “Middle-earth.”

And if you wish to have a longer stay during your exchange, looking for work there can be an option. By choosing New Zealand, you can apply for a work visa, which allows you to bring your family and spouse along. With your family close by and all the tranquility offered in the country, you can be sure that New Zealand is the ideal place for a comfortable exchange!
